Mulberry Branding

The Project(ongoing)

The project is a rebranding for a venue that has theatre, art programs, music programs, comedy, concerts, and is a community center. The venue is located in downtown Baltimore on Mulberry street. This community has seen its rough times but is trying to band together and grow.

The Logo

When I research the concept for the logo I immediate thought of the mulberry tree. After researching what the mulberry tree symbolized I found out it represents beauty, fertility, survival, growth, and renewal. I realized this was the perfect concept because it represented what the owners of the venue were trying to create for the community.

The Colors

The color scheme for this logo had to be pleasing for all ages and also represent the characteristics the venue was trying to symbolize. I picked mulberry and green. The color mulberry has a variety of effects on the mind and body, including uplifting spirits, calming the mind and nerves, and encouraging imagination and creativity. Green, the color of life, renewal, nature, and energy, is associated with meanings of growth, harmony, freshness, safety, fertility, and environment. With the color green’s association with renewal, growth, and hope, often green stands for both a lack of experience and need for growth.

The Text

For the main text, I used Hypatia sans pro which was playful but also strong which I thought went well with the mulberry tree. The secondary text was Avenir which paired nicely with Hypatia Sans, they both have geometric aspects but the thinness and clean lines of Avenir won’t overpower Hypatia Sans.
